The Women’s Search for the Ideal Gift

The survey “The psychology of gifting”, conducted by Kelton Research on behalf of eBay sought out adult American women to discuss the ways they shop for gifts during the holidays. In the research, four distinct types of consumers were recognized. Each was associated with different gift-giving styles.

Based on the survey conducted by eBay, American women can be grouped into four types of presenters. What group are you a part of to?

The Emotional Givers. About 4 out of 10 American women have been identified as emotional-givers. After taking careful consideration of the gift as well as the recipient They will typically search for unique items. They would like to show how well they know who they are gifting to. So they plan to wrap, wrap and usually send gifts with notes or even cards.

Practical Givers. About 1 out of five American women falls into this type of giver. When they give, the best gift items are either cold cash or gift certificates (gift certificate or gift cheques). These gifts are chosen based on practicality, so they give the gift recipient the option of choosing the gift that believes is the best. And, the perfect instrument to give that kind of flexibility is either cash or a gift card.

Convenience Givers. Around 16 percent of survey participants identified as these types. Convenience Givers are efficient shoppers. They are more likely to buy gifts from one store. If they are like these, hunting for ideas to give as gifts is an effort they eventually have to (often begrudgingly) accomplish. Most often, Convenience Givers don’t feel any joy or excitement when they search for that perfect present.

Last-Minute Gifts. These are the ladies who purchase gifts at the eleventh hour. This mad dash to purchase the last-minute gift seems to be a favorite pastime for the women. Around 13% of American women belong to this category. The women who fall into this category don’t prepare to prepare for the holidays.

It’s possible to show some of the traits of the various types of givers. In the majority of cases, however there is a dominant characteristic, and the other two tend to be secondary behavior traits.

My initial reaction after I was informed about this survey was to examine myself to see if I am a person I was giving gifts to. Once I had a few minutes, I began to realize that surveys like this should be used with a pinch salt.
