Can Citra play ROMs?
Citra is an emulator of the handheld game console Nintendo 3DS, developed by Citra and contributors. It is written in C++. Citra can run almost all homebrew games and many commercial games. Citra is free and open-source and is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

Can Citra play NDS games?
No. The 3ds literally includes the old ds hardware inside in order to play ds games (this is a simplified version of the whole picture). For citra to include ds games, it means they would have to recode an entire ds emulator to get it to work.
Is Citra emulator safe?
Citra is open-source, anyone can inspect the code themselves to verify it isn’t a virus. You only risk getting a virus by installing third party builds with unpublished source code, or by downloading ROMs from shady sites (something not condoned by this sub).
Is CIA better than 3DS?
3DS files are nice if you don’t want to clutter your home menu with games that you’re just trying out or don’t plan on playing very much, or if you don’t feel like waiting for a CIA to install which can take a long time for larger games.
Does Citra use CIA?
Currently, Citra is able to install (decrypted) CIAs easily. On the menu bar, choose File > Install CIA. Navigate to the CIA file you want to install. Once it’s done installing, you should be able to play it.
Does Citra need CIA or 3DS?
cia is another important file format that is not supported by Citra. A CIA is a packaging format used by Nintendo. CIAs hold NCCH files, which can be installed to the 3DS NAND or SD card. This is why you can convert a CIA to a NCSD and vice-versa, they both just hold NCCHs.

The only way to speed up Citra is to find parts in citra that are slow and make them fast. This is not easy at all and needs very technical people to work many long, hard hours to make it faster.
